A listening task

Hi, fellas!

Now I am a little late. Sorry, but I went to Itapema Park with my students on Thursday and on Friday, I had the Xmas party at school. I ve got very tired these days.

Well, Jaque is traveling, in fact, she went home, so she will not participate very often in our discussion. Anyway, in order to finish our talk about New Orleans (it's getting longer than I expected), I want you to see some videos and make some comments on them. Below the websites and some questions:

1. Second Line:
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0708/feature1/multimedia.html
a) What is the second line?
b) What is the big nine?

2. Trouble at the bayou
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0708/feature1/video1.html
c) What are they doing in order to make New Orleans safer?

3. Dangerous Terrain
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0708/feature1/video2.html
d) What is Bob Bea's opinion about living in New Orleans?
e) What is your opinion? If you lived there, what would you do?

I hope you enjoy this listening task. Probably, you will have to listen to it more than twice. Bob Bea's accent is not that easy, but I am sure you will be able to get the main idea and bring what you get to our discussion.

See you,
Lilian.

Hi!

Well, let's go to the answers:

1. a) The second line is a parade that is important to the culture of New Orleans. There's a main line, responsable for the parade, and the second line is composed by the people.
b) The big nine is a social club, but I didn't understand its origin...

2. I've no idea.

3. a) I understood most of the words, but not the links between them. So, I can't say if his opinion is positive or negative...
b) If I could understand his opininion about the safety of living in New Orleans, I could imagine my opinion...

Well, I will try to help, ok?

THE FIRST VIDEO:
a)Is the Second Line a regular parade in New Orleans, as Juliana said, or is it a special parade to support the victims of Katrina, as Juarez said?
b)About the Big Nine. You are very close to it, but the name has a relation to the neighborhood - Lower Ninth Ward. Is it easier to understand now?

Yours,
Lilian.

Well, now some comments on the SECOND VIDEO.

This one was not very easy to me because my connection is not so good. It keeps stopping after some words, so I really could understand some parts of it.

I will give you some key expressions and I want you to concentrate on them in order to answer question letter C, right?

Here they go:
* flood control structure;
* clay icing;
* spoil bank material.

That's it! I am looking forward to reading your comments.
